The drought also affected the livestock sector, where the availability of animal feed was reduced significantly. This causes a decline in livestock populations and a shortage of meat, milk and derivative products on the market. When food production decreases, the most vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly, experience malnutrition.

Access to better technology and innovation in agriculture is urgently needed to face this drought challenge. Developing drought-tolerant plant varieties could improve the situation. Additionally, efficient water management strategies and sustainable agricultural practices must be implemented to optimize yields.

Channeling funds for research and development of agricultural technology, as well as training for farmers on good management techniques, is also an important step. With the right solutions and collaborative actions, the negative impact of drought on food security can be minimized, creating a more resilient and sustainable food system.
